New Faces in the FAC, Says Good-Bye
to Old Friends
SNRE owes much of its success to the 11 individuals who make up the Faculty Advisory Council. The newly formed body helped shape SNRE activities and goals.
Last spring, the Council said goodbye
to four of its pioneer members who established the FAC charter--determining how the FAC is structured and its responsibilities. Michael Binford, Professor of Geography was chair of the Council and played a key role in establishing the FAC. Joseph
Delfino, Professor and Environmental Coordinator of Engineering Sciences;
Wendy Graham, Professor and Director of the UF Water Use Institute; and
Marianne Schmink, Professor and Director of
Tropical Conservation and Development Program also stepped down according to the charter rules.
While outgoing FAC members left behind big shoes, three brave members are eager to fill them. Katie Sieving, Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation; Jean-Claude Bonzongo Department of Environmental Engineering Sciences; and Jon Martin, Department of Geology, have been appointed as replacements.
Eric Jokela, Professor in the School of Forest Resources and Conservation, is the current FAC chair. The organization will hold its next meeting on March 20th, from 9 - 11 a.m.
The School of Natural Resources and Environment administrators are advised
by the Faculty Advisory Council. The FAC consists of 11
participating Affiliate Faculty as follows: three each from the College of
Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering, and College of Agricultural
and Life Sciences, one from another college of the university, and one at
large. The tenure of membership for the Council is three
years. Members leaving the Council are replaced
by a new member appointed by the Council or one of the college Deans.
