Professionals Learn to Resolve Environmental ConflictsThe Florida Natural Resources Leadership Institute trains professionals from Florida's agencies, industries, and organizations to deal with controversial environmental issues related to their jobs. Participants in the program learn the skills needed to build consensus around contentious issues and move beyond conflict to find solutions. Training includes tours of key natural resource sites around the state. Institute graduates go on to help citizens, policymakers, and other stakeholders reach mutually acceptable solutions to the often conflicting goals of protecting the environment while fostering economic development. The School of Natural Resources and Environment hosts the program in collaboration with the Florida Conflict Resolution Consortium and the UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. Other sponsors include Progress Energy, Florida Sea Grant, Florida Farm Bureau Federation, and the South Florida Water Management District. The 2006 program will emphasize growth management issues to prepare graduates to deal constructively with Florida's explosive growth. For more information, please contact Bruce Delaney.
